This Exhibit
This online exhibit was designed to complement and promote an on-site exhibit in the Dumbarton Oaks Research Library, December 15, 2010-March 31, 2011. Both the online and the on-site exhibits were curated by Sarah K. Burke.
We decided to use the exhibit as an opportunity to experiment with options for digital exhibits. Please visit the Dumbarton Oaks website for more information about our institution.
Vocabulary
Vocabulary in this exhibit derives from the Getty thesauri and from Bookbinding and the Conservation of Books: A Dictionary of Descriptive Terminology (1982) by Don Etherington and Matt T. Roberts. Etherington & Roberts is also available online.
Omeka and Dublin Core
This exhibit is hosted by omeka.net, part of the Omeka project for online publishing of cultural heritage materials. Omeka makes use of the Dublin Core Metadata Initiative element set. Dublin Core is a simple, flexible element set that has been adopted by a wide variety of user groups. The standardized element set makes it possible for researchers to work across disciplines, and facilitates the interoperability of online collections.
